The Jets lost their ninth game of the season on Sunday, officially clinching their ninth consecutive losing season. They all but extended their streak of seasons without a postseason to 15 too — that’s currently the longest such streak in American professional sports.
That’s not all quarterback Aaron Rodgers’s fault, said WFAN host Sal Licata on Monday. As currently constructed, Licata believes, this team just isn’t good enough.
“Again, the sentiment is ripping Aaron Rodgers. He’s not the problem,” Licata said, via Audacy. “He’s old, yes. He’s slow, yes. What do you expect? He’s not Superman. The rest of the team stinks. For me, it’s too much blame on one particular individual.
“He made some good throws, and he made some bad throws. The Jets didn’t lose the game because of Aaron Rodgers, at least not in my eyes.”

In Sunday’s 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Rodgers failed to surpass 200 yards passing for the third straight game. Instead, he turned in 185 yards on 21-of-39 passes (53.8% completion percentage) for two touchdowns and a historic interception — Seahawks lineman Leonard Williams returned the ball 92 yards for a touchdown, the longest pick-six by a defensive lineman in the history of the league.
In SNY’s postgame show, former Jets player Willie Colon blasted Rodgers for being “smug.”
“You can be smug and cocky when you are winning MVPs and you’re balling,” Colon said, via SNY. “You can make every play on the field, you can be smug. The problem is his smugness and his play aren’t matching up.”
Licata could not disagree with Colon more.
Sure the Jets are 3-9 this season — nine losses ties Rodgers’s most in a single season — but it’s not all on the quarterback.
“I’m not saying he’s perfect. He’s not,” Licata said. “But is the Patriots game on him? The Denver game? That monstrosity yesterday?”
